Opening only two years ago, the Moody Center in Austin, TX has already hosted some big names in both sports and music in just a short amount of time.
Based in the center of the University of Texas campus, Moody Center is the place for all things entertainment. Making the venue come to life wasn’t easy. With the help of Oak View Group (OVG), Live Nation Entertainment/C3 Presents, University of Texas at Austin, and Oscar Award-winning actor, producer, and UT Austin professor Matthew McConaughey, along with over 100 other companies. With a capacity of about 15,000 people, the Moody Center opened its doors for the first time with a concert from John Mayer on April 20, 2022. The venue would continue to be visited by big name artists like Fall Out Boy, Drake, Harry Styles, Olivia Rodrigo and so many more. Moody Center is also home to the Women’s and Men’s Texas Longhorns Basketball team. Hosting Big 12 Conference games, and recently the first few rounds of the Women’s March Madness Tournament, the venue has quickly shown it’s a place for entertainment of all kinds.
But the decision to bring the Moody Center to life didn’t come from thin air. With the mindset of creating a space to hold concerts, the site was able to come to be with the help of a $130 million grant from its namesake foundation, Moody Foundation. The foundation is known for its help across Texas schools, libraries, medical professionals and more. They’ve also been connected with the University of Texas in Austin for quite some time with their first contributions to the school going towards the College of Communication, whose name would soon become the Moody College of Communication. The Moody Foundation’s generosity towards the University of Texas is a gift the school will forever be grateful for.
Although the venue has only been open for two years, the Moody Center has already proven that it’s a place to enjoy various forms of entertainment. Whether it’s art, sports or music, the Moody Center has something for everyone.
